Benefits of babywearing

There are numerous benefits to babywearing – the main one being that it makes life easier for mommy, daddy and baby. Babywearing has been an essential part of child rearing in many cultures for centuries but only recently has it grown in popularity in the west as parents have come to realize its many advantages and how fabulous it really is.

Let's get to know some of the perks of babywearing, shall we?

  • Newborns simply need to be held. The physical and physiological benefits that close physical contact offers your baby are multiple. Using a carrier not only allows you to give the comfort baby needs but also have your hands free for other activities like work or playing with a sibling.
  • The upright position is a great ally against reflux and it also helps with gas issues by applying slight pressure on the tummy.
  • Colicky babies are more easily pacified in a carrier.
  • Carriers are specifically designed for the mobile parent or caregiver and are much easier to handle than a stroller.
  • A carrier allows older babies to have a much better view of his/her surroundings by being right in the middle of all the action.
  • A good carrier makes it much easier to handle the weight of your growing toddler while leaving you hands free for other tasks.
  • If your baby or toddler is sick, grumpy or just having a bad day, babywearing will surely soothe and lift those spirits!

Almost all babies like to be worn and they certainly love to be held! Some might be a bit picky about what position they prefer so always try a new carrier with a rested, happy baby because a tired, grumpy one is not going to care for a new experience of any kind. They might fuss at first because it is a new situation; just walk around a bit and a little bouncing can help, too.

When your baby become more mobile, she/he might refuse to be worn for a while. When they become toddlers, though, they usually come back around even if they have mastered walking. With the right carrier, you can babywear just as long as you would use a stroller.
