Halloween is the scariest time of the year and that's fine. . . for adults. But our little ones may not be ready to enjoy the thrills of all things spooky and chilling. That's why we've put together a list of ten great Halloween books for babies and tots to get into the spooky-spirit without being seriously frightened.
1.- Click, Clack, Boo! A tricky treat by Doreen Cronin
Will the barnyard animals trick-or-treat Farmer Brown? Broad black lines and watercolor paintings add just the right amount of shadow and spookiness to the simple text, creating a story that is creepy enough for Halloween but won't scare little ones.
2.- Duck & Goose Find a Pumpkin by Tad Hills
With simple text and bright, colorful illustrations, this lovely book takes little ones on an adventure as Duck and Goose search for the perfect Halloween pumpkin.
3.- The Night Before Halloween by Natasha Wing
Silly, spooky monsters are preparing for trick-or-treaters — what will happen when real kids and real monsters come face to face?
4.- Pinkalicious: Trick or Treat by Victoria Kann
When a power outage threatens Halloween and all the fun it brings, Pinkalicious must find a way to save the day, along with the candy, costumes, and trick-or-treating fun!
From Bright Baby, this interactive touch-and-feel board book has simple text and a slightly spooky theme for little ones. Perfect for baby's first Halloween.
6.- Too Many Monsters! by Robert Neubecker
Halloween is all about costumes, games and candy, right? But that doesn't mean your tot can't practice numbers while joining in all the fun!
7.- Where's My Mummy? by Carolyn Crimi
This little mummy has lost his mummy! Go with him as he heads out for one last game of hide and seek and gets a bit lost. With a slightly suspenseful story and lots of comical illustrations, this spook-tastic book is fun for the whole family.
8.- The Little Old Lady who was not Afraid of Anything by Linda Williams
If your tot is scared to trick-or-treat, this book will give them a much-needed boost of bravery.
9.- Monster Needs a Costume by Paul Czajak
This book proves that every creature has a hard time deciding what to wear on Halloween. Your little ones will laugh out loud as Monster tries on an assortment of costumes, ranging from a fireman to a pretty ballerina.
10.- 10 Trick-or-Treaters by Janet Schulman
This is a perfect, not-so-scary read for kids filled with bold, bright artwork and fun.
