SIDS and how to avoid it

It is very important to be aware of recommendations when it comes to putting your baby to sleep in his crib.

Here are some recommendations from the CDC and the American SIDS Institute to avoid a tragedy:

  • A very soft blanket should never be used under or above an infant as it poses a health risk and could cause an accident while sleeping.
  • Always put the baby on his back to sleep: during naps and at night.
  • Use a firm surface, such as a mattress in an approved safety crib, covered by an adjustable sheet.
  • Keep soft objects, toys, crib protectors, and loose bedding out of the sleeping area.
  • Breastfeeding helps reduce the risk of SIDS.
  • Give him a dry pacifier that is not tied to a rope. This prevents him from getting tangled in it.
  • Do not let baby get too hot.
  • Stay awake from time to time and keep your eye on baby.
